The world can be a chaotic and difficult to understand place. For instance, every year, around this time, there are sudden loud noises that come from every direction when the sun goes down. And they continue for a long time.
OH NO! There’s one now! What is that? And there’s another one! Is the world ending? I need to get under ground. I need to dig into the ground. I’m so scared I could pee! And now I’m peeing. Great. My pack members are going to yell at me now.
Okay it seems to have stopped. NOPE. What is this terrible sudden sound? Why aren’t any of my pack members upset by it? Don’t they realize that the fabric of reality is coming apart? Nothing makes sense! No! Why are they leaving? Don’t go outside! Help me dig a hole into the earth to hide from this terror!
When will this unknowable horror end? When will this unending assault on my hearing and sense of well-being cease? Will it ever?
Only time will tell. For now, I’m going to find things that smell like my pack members. My pack members give me comfort. I’m going to tear those things that smell like my pack members apart and use the pieces build a small fortress of smell around me, and close my eyes and cry to myself silently until this stops.
